Staying Chic in the Winter (In Canada)

Fashion vs weather. The constant struggle. How does one remain fashionable in the winter months? We are already deep into January and so I thought it was time for a post about staying chic in the winter. Winter fashion is highly elusive, mainly because winter is different everywhere. Winter in Paris, for instance, means you can wear a light sweater with jeans and a wool coat thrown on top. Winter elsewhere, however (like Toronto), means ugly puffer coats and big winter boots. Until now. Though, you will have to sacrifice comfort to a degree. Just not to as much of a degree as you might’ve thought.

Wool Gloves

No, they’re not as warm as your lined mitts, but they do the job! And they are much more chic than any other option. Apart from leather gloves, which are another good way to go.

Whether cashmere or merino, these kinds of gloves don’t detract from an outfit. I highly suggest! These Naadam ones are cashmere, and high up on my winter wish list!

Thick Socks

In the winter, good socks are what keep your toes from turning into icicles. These Maggie’s Organics socks are made of organic cotton, and are thick but not too thick. This brand makes other kinds as well, if you want something cozier.

Base Layer Turtleneck

Turtlenecks are known for their fashionable qualities, especially the black turtleneck. Make it a part of your day-to-day winter getup as a layering piece. Wear it under any of your thicker sweaters, and you will feel super cozy. I like this one from Kotn, it’s a good quality piece that holds its shape well, made from sustainable Egyptian cotton.

Berets!

Berets are one of best hat options for the winter. While not as warm as a hat with a liner, they still add a nice layer of protection against cold winds. Etsy has a lot of vintage ones in a variety of colours.
